Every musician has a “beginning”—that specific moment where the magic of music goes from being a sound in the room to a spark in the heart. For me, that spark was lit in a living room filled with the voices of my family, harmonizing to hymns while my mother played the piano.
But my real challenge came from my father. He once handed me a Broadway Hymnal, two inches thick and brimming with complex music, and made me an offer I couldn’t refuse: “When you can play every song in this book, I’ll give you $10.”
To a young girl, that ten dollars felt like a fortune. But as I worked my way through those pages, something changed. It stopped being about the reward and started being about the discovery. I wasn’t just learning notes; I was learning how to tell stories, how to evoke emotion, and how to connect with the people around me.
That $10 promise turned me into a lifelong student and, eventually, a teacher.
Why I Started This Site After decades of playing in churches and teaching students of all ages, I wanted to create a space that makes music accessible, fun, and deeply personal. Whether you are a parent looking for “Musical Stories” to spark your child’s imagination, or an adult finally sitting down to fulfill a lifelong dream of playing the piano, I’m here to guide you.
What to Expect Here This blog won’t just be about finger placements or scales (though we will talk about those!). It’s going to be a place where we explore:
-
Overcoming the “I’m too old/young” hurdle: Music has no expiration date.
-
The Magic of Musical Stories: How we use visuals and storytelling to make learning stick for children.
-
Behind the Scenes: A look at the creation of the Bigfoot Playlist and my latest music videos.
Let’s Start the Conversation Music is meant to be shared. I’m so grateful you’ve found your way to my corner of the internet. My goal is to help you or your child find the same joy in the keys that I found all those years ago in my family’s living room.
Take a look around the site, check out our lesson packages, and feel free to reach out. I’d love to hear about your own musical journey—or the one you’re about to start.
Warmly,
Willi Rose
