Willi Rose began playing the piano as a young child and church music in particular when she was in junior high school.
Her family would sing around the piano, while her mom played the piano. Willi, her broth-er Harvey, sister Johnnie Beth, and father Bart would sing harmonies. They did the same at church on Sundays for years.
One day, her father handed her a Broadman Hymnal, which is about 2 inches thick and full of church hymns, and said, “When you can play every song in this book, I’ll give you $10!”
That was a lot of money to Willette at that time, which is what she was called back then, so she worked her way through that hymnal. This is how she became so good at playing hymns and an expert church musician overall. She is also an expert sight reader who can play many different types of music.
Since those early days she’s been a church pianist, organist, choir director, music direc-tor, and composer. When it comes to playing hymns and church music, if you have the music, she can play it.
Willi has been teaching music for decades, with many of her students becoming accom-plished musicians in their own rights. Currently, she is the owner of the Willi Rose Music Academy located in Louisiana.
She also loves to make story videos. Willi writes the stories, the music and produces the videos. This website is her way of bringing stories to children to help them learn to read at any age, free of charge. The stories here are samples. Jonah is written for the very young while Lucky Mo is for the older person. Willi plans to write many more stories at different levels of reading. Notice that the music is accurate notation, not artistically drawn. So, while you learn to read, you also learn to read music!
